Description

My Entry for Design a CD Cover Contest.

"The lessons of time are silent...
I am beginning to hear now...
I have arrived, I have achieved...
But still...the silence...
I wish I could tell you, I wish I could express...
The futility of it all, the emptiness...
I still love you, may be more now
I wish I could say that...
Victory at last... iI wish I had not won...
The lessons ot time are SHRIEKING..."
(blue silence)

This is my first post on GFXartist
I've tried to create something surreal.
The album name is "Before Epilogue" and band name is "Epitaph", both fictitious.
I've used Photoshop CS2,3ds Max6 .

Hourglass are made in 3ds Max6 rest everything done in photoshop.
Hope you'll like it, comments and critiques are welcome.

i really like your concept. colours are smooth and dark without being dull black. maybe you've overdone it a bit with all those textures, though. it's hard to find a calm place to reast your eye.
still 9/10.
welcome to GFXartist and thank your for your kind works concerning my work.

Good work with textures and colours! I think the image is a tad blurry, tho. But overall its a very nice piece! :)

Avatar silken

 10/31/06 @094

It's a beautiful cover. It makes me think of that calm before the storm kind of thing...:)

A couple of suggestions. Right now, one side of the face is very sharply angled compared to the other side. I would even it out a little bit because it makes it look a little lop-sided. Also, I would either increase the size of the left hourglass or decrease the size of the right hourglass in the background. Right now, all the weight is to the right because of the hourglass in the foreground. Playing with the one on the left would even it out a little bit.

I also very much like the treatment you gave the fonts.

great job and good luck!

Very strange! But powerfull as well! :)

Avatar loneorbit

 10/31/06 @688

Indeed a powerful image. Colors and objects placement help to create a dark mood as this darkness blankets the landscape, drawing ones attention to the softly illuminated face. Then we take notice of three hanging hour glasses that surround the head in ominous manner, as if to say time is running out. Bird in mid-flight helps break up the darkness with a symbolic and real way, which could mean hope. Everthing seems to occur in the foreground, perhaps some additional birds flying in distance just to take advantage of that space you've created. Nice job.

Avatar jsgknight

I like the concept a lot. But I think making the floor lighter so you can see the shadows that are beeing cast down by the hourglass would give it that extra dramatic look.

Avatar kemp

 11/04/06 @496

great atmosphere. Colors are great, but I feel it's a bit too contrasted and a bit too saturated.

I'm not quite sure about the composition... dead center might not be the best place for that head to sit...

Oh, and as someone else mentionned, you would gain a lot of depth to the work by having something happenning in the background. Nothing that takes a lot of attention, just something that makes it more than "just a flat background"...

Keep it up buddy, and post some other works !

J.

Avatar GijsRoest

 11/22/06 @479

Hello and welcome,
I don't know if someone said this already, but perhaps you should create a contrast between sky and floor. A brighter sky is more hopefull, a brighter floor is more towards doom (I don't know what the style of music is exactly, the main message). Either way, a bit more interaction between background and objects might improve. Anyway, I like the piece as it is, probably suiting the music on the disc perfectly. Cya
